Natural proteinase K (EC 3.4.21.14) is a serine protease purified from Tritirachium album limber and its molecular weight is about 29KD. The microorganism that synthesizes the protease can grow in an environment with Kerantin as the sole carbon and nitrogen source, so it is named "proteinase K". Proteinase K is often used in various molecular biology and cell biology related experiments because it has excellent proteolytic properties. In addition, it is also widely used in the pharmaceutical industry, such as the preparation of proteinase K monoclonal antibodies for the detection of proteinase K content in the development of polysaccharide vaccines.
