Proteinase K, discovered in 1974 in extracts of the fungus Engyodontium album (formerly Tritirachium album), is a broad-spectrum serine protease, and named “proteinase K” because it can digest natural keratin. Because proteinase K has good protein digestion ability as well as high activity, high temperature resistance and other characteristics, it is not only commonly used in a variety of molecular biology and cell biology related experiments, but also widely used in different fields such as food processing, feed production, environmental protection, pharmaceutical industry, energy and resource development. For example, in the pharmaceutical industry, proteinase K can be used in the development of polysaccharide vaccines to efficiently digest and remove host proteins.

Polysaccharide vaccines are one of the common types of vaccines.
