Description

Proteinase K (EC 3.4.21.14) is a serine protease, originally isolated and purified from Tritirachium album Limber. Because it can degrade keratin, hence, named proteinase K. Compared with other proteases, proteinase K has high enzymatic activity and strong stability, and it can still maintain high activity while under higher temperature, salt concentration, pH and other reaction conditions, or in the presence of denaturants such as SDS, EDTA and urea at a certain concentration. Proteinase K can degrade a variety of proteins, and is often used in molecular biology fields such as Western blotting experiments and in situ hybridization techniques, especially in nucleic acid extraction.

There is a kind of recombinant proteinase K (rProK) which is extracted from yeast and produced by Healthgen Biotech with its core patented protein purification platform.
