Description

Proteinase K is a broad-spectrum serine protease belong to peptidase family S8. Because it can digest keratin, henceforth, named "Proteinase K". Proteinase K is activated by calcium. It can digest proteins especially after hydrophobic amino acids such as aliphatic, aromatic and other hydrophobic amino acids. Proteinase K is frequently utilized in molecular biology to digest protein and remove contamination from extraction and preparations of nucleic acid. Secondly proteinase K can be added into nucleic acid preparations rapidly inactivates nucleases to protect the DNA or RNA from degrading during purification. In addition, proteinase K can be used to destruct proteins in cell lysates (tissue, cell culture cells) and release of nucleic acids due to its quite effectively inactivation of DNases and RNases.

Healthgen Biotech recombinant proteinase K (rProK) is derived from yeast and has the same structure and function with natural proteinase K. It is purified by chromatography process, and with calcium and glycerin as protective agents.
