Yeast Derived Recombinant Proteinase K Extract Nucleic Acid

Description

Proteinase K, discovered in 1974 in extracts of the fungus Engyodontium album (formerly Tritirachium album), is a broad-spectrum serine protease, and named “proteinase K” because it can digest natural keratin. Proteinase K belongs to Peptidase family S8 (subtilisin), its predominant site of cleavage is the peptide bond adjacent to the carboxyl group of aliphatic and aromatic amino acids with blocked alpha amino groups, which has a wide range of cleavage capabilities.

Recombinant Proteinase K (rProK) is derived from yeast and purified by chromatography process, and with calcium and glycerin as protective agents. The rProK is RNase free and DNase free, which makes the rProk mainly be used for general degradation of proteins in biological samples to extract nucleic acids, such as the removal of histones in genomic DNA extraction, the removal of nucleases in the preparation of DNA and RNA, and the treatment of contaminants in target DNA in in situ hybridization.
