Description
Human serum albumin (HSA) is the most abundant protein in plasma synthesized by hepatic parenchymal cells in human body, accounting for about 40%–60% of total protein in plasma with a concentration of 35–50 g/L and a long half-life of 19 days. It consists of a single non-glycosylated polypeptide chain of 585 amino acids forming a heart-shaped molecule with molecular weight of 66.5 kDa and comprising three domains. In human body, HSA is largely responsible for maintaining normal osmolarity in the bloodstream but also functions as a carrier for numerous small molecules. HSA is also a valuable biomarker of various diseases and implantable biomaterials which is widely applicable to a variety of biotechnological and biopharmaceutical uses. For instance, HSA can assist in drug delivery, and surgical adhesion. However, the shortage supply of donated blood derived pHSA and the potential risk of pathogen infection limits the application of HSA.
OsrHSA, a recombinant human serum albumin derived from rice grains(Oryza sativa), was independently developed and manufactured by Healthgen Biotech with its core patented Platform OryzHiExp: rice endosperm specific expression platform. Rice is a higher organism, of which expression system is very complete. Using the platform of OryzHiExp, OsrHSA was expressed in the rice endosperm and stored in the rice grain protein body which can keep the protein stability and bioactivity to the maximum extent. Compared to plasma human serum albumin(pHSA), OsrHSA has the same second and tertiary structure, drug binding sites, physiological and biochemical properties, which can ensure that the OsrHSA is equivalent to pHSA, while it has higher purity and excellent batch consistency. Moreover, rice-derived OsrHSA can solve the problem of shortage supply of blood derived pHSA and eliminate the risk of pathogen infection. Therefore, OsrHSA can be an excellent alternative to pHSA.
Currently, OsrHSA are widely used as:
