Human serum albumin (HSA) is the most abundant protein component in human blood with a concentration of 35–50 g/L and a long half-life of 19 day. HSA has two predominant drug binding pockets, site I located in subdomain IIA and site II positioned in subdomain IIIA, as well as some multi-metal binding sites. In addition, because of the good compatibility and stability, HSA can help extend the half-life of the drug in the body so that the drug can perform better. Then HSA acts as a physiological carrier for various compounds including drugs. On the market, HSA has been used for drug delivery device, such as Hydrogels, as wound dressings and implantable devices including drug delivery vehicles applied to the living body.
