Fibronectin (FN) is mainly synthesized by liver and vascular endothelial cells and widely present in animal plasma, body fluids and tissues, and it is a particularly important and well-studied component of the extracellular matrix. FN is a macromolecular glycoprotein composed of two subunits with a molecular mass of about 220KDa connected by interchain disulfide bonds, and the molecular weight of the dimer is about 450KD. FN has a variety of biological activities. Modern medical research has shown that the change of fibronectin content is closely related to various clinical diseases, such as hepatitis and cirrhosis, and the detection of fibronectin content has very important clinical significance in patients with infectious hepatitis.

The change of fibronectin content in patients with infectious hepatitis is related to the different-stage disease. The serum fibronectin content decreased during the active period. In acute hepatitis, severe hepatitis, decompensated liver cirrhosis, liver cancer, especially extensive liver metastases, the serum fibronectin content is significantly reduced. During the treatment of the disease, the rise of serum fibronectin content indicates improvement of the condition.

At present, the common fibronectin which is used to prepare FN polyclonal antibody. In the market, the FN is mainly derived from human plasma or animal plasma as a subsidiary product of blood products. Although there are relatively many manufacturers, but the capacity is low and the supply is not stable.
