Description
Fibronectin (FN) is a multifunctional, extracellular matrix glycoprotein composed of two nearly identical disulfidebound polypeptides of molecular weight 220 kDa. Functional domains of FN mediate interactions with cell surface receptors and a number of other macromolecules including fibrin, fibrinogen, collagen, heparin, immune complexes, and fibronectin itself. Numerous studies have shown that FN can enhance cell adhesion and spreading and affect the routes of cell migration both in vivo and in culture. FN has been shown to also play a role in cellular morphology, cytoskeletal organization, phagocytosis, hemostasis, embryonic differentiation and wound repair. FN is suitable as a thin coating on cell/tissue culture surface for a variety of cell types.
Currently, the FN is purified from the plasma, which however is limited by the availability of supply. In addition, due to shortage of plasma and low expression levels of recombinant fibronectin in conventional gene expression systems, Healthgen Biotech express the recombinant fibronectin (OsrhFN) in the rice endosperm platform using the world's top purification processing. The OsrhFN is animal component free and has high purity, and has been demonstrated that has the same physical and chemical with the plasma derived FN. The OsrhFN can support cells growth, enhance cell adhesion, spreading and stem cells differentiation in serum –free culture medium.
