Basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF, FGF2 or FGF-beta) is a member of the fibroblast growth factor family. BFGF is a single-chain polypeptide growth factor, which plays an important role in promoting cell proliferation. And it can inhibit cell apoptosis, accelerate wound healing and induce angiogenesis. In many types of cells, such as mesoderm and neuroectoderm, bFGF is also very effective in inducing DNA synthesis. In the cell proliferation assay using Balb/c 3T3, the bFGF specific activity is higher than 1X10⁶ Units/mg.
