Description
Lysozyme (LYZ) is an antimicrobial enzyme produced by animals that forms part of the innate immune system. LYZ is a glycoside hydrolase that catalyzes the hydrolysis of 1,4-beta-linkages between N-acetylmuramic acid and N-acetyl-D-glucosamine residues in peptidoglycan, which is the major component of gram-positive bacterial cell wall. This hydrolysis in turn compromises the integrity of bacterial cell walls causing lysis of the bacteria. As Nature's Antimicrobial, lysozyme is a key element in the immune system's fight against infection. This natural polypeptide with a molecular weight of 14,3kDa is naturally present in mother's milk, tears, saliva.
Currently, the commercial lysozyme is mainly produced from milk, which however is limited by the availability of supply and source. The recombinant lysozyme (OsrhLYZ) was expressed in the patented rice endosperm, which is animal component free and has very good batch consistency. The rice endosperm advantages are over other systems in terms of scalability, safety, and cost-effectiveness. The OsrhLYZ purity is higher than 90% and bioactivity is more than 4X10^4 IU/mg. The OsrhLYZ has been demonstrated that has the same physical and chemical with the native lysozyme.
